Teacherscribe’s Teaching Tip #19
- Let them teach
This one is easy for me. I do this several times, and it usually goes over really, really well.
The most effective way I use this is when I teach Austin Kleon’s Steal Like an Artist. It is a very short and entertaining read. So I ask students in my CC 2 class to look it over and choose which of the ten chapters (or ways to “steal like an artist”) they find most interesting. Once they have completed the Google Doc, I thin divide them up, two or three students per chapter. Then I give them our lesson plan format (learning target, classroom activities, home work, and evidence of learning) and have them craft a lesson around it. This always goes over very, very well.
