You Can't Make This Stuff Up, Part 84

In my Creative Writing class we are exploring creative non-fiction via a rite of passage essay. We watched The Sandlot for examples. Then we did some brainstorming. Now, today we are watching an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond in which Ray's son stays home from school because he is embarrassed about calling his teacher mommy.

As the episode unfolds, we learn that Ray was terribly embarrassed at one point. Finally, Ray and his son have this bonding experience over their shared rite of passage (facing embarrassment and dealing with it).

We talked briefly how ALL of us have been too embarrassed to go to school for one reason or another.

As I walked to my desk one student said, "I just don't like school."

"Why?"

"It's boring," he concluded.

Never mind this student has turned in one of 15 current assignments.

Well, doing nothing tends to be boring. Can't argue with that.
