Don’t Take the Money and Run

This reminds me of an offer Zappos makes all of their initial hires.  They offer them – at the concluding of their training – a chance to take 5,000 to quit.

That’s right.  They will pay you to quit.  Their reasoning is simple: if you would take the money and run, then you aren’t good enough to be part of their culture.

Now, this ties back in to what Richard Kaplan talks about in his book, What You’re (Really) Meant to Do.  He argues that if you don’t have the passion to lean-in to your work, you will never last the 10-15 years it takes to make the most lucrative money in your field.

So don’t just take the money and run. That’s the easy way out.
