Another book that really impacted my teaching last year was Carmine Gallo’s Talk Like TED: The 9 Public Speaking Secrets of the Worlds’ Top Minds.
Here is Tip #1 - Unleash the master within
What Gallo means by that is show your unique mastery of the subject.
I don’t think teachers have any problem with this for we are masters in our subject area. But the trouble is this - simple master of our subject is not enough to engage our students.
So build your engaging lectures or presentations around your expert knowledge of the subject area.
Just remember, mastery is a start but it’s not enough.
That’s why we need his second tip.
