because I had a nightmare - it's actually a reoccurring nightmare - where I show up to my first day of class - late - and have nothing ready. The class is waiting for me and getting anxious.
I walk in and try to reign them in and conjure some sort of lesson plan out of thing air, but they see right through it and began to get bored and distracted.
I decide to print out some sample essays to read - in this case it was a multi-genre research paper - only to have printer errors. Finally when it does get printed, I dash down to the copier room only to experience copy errors!
When I return to class, all hell is breaking lose and I'm resorted to yelling and throwing things to try to regain control. That, though, only causes things to spiral further out of control.
I tell you when I wake up from that dream, I almost sit straight up in bed.
Just to be sure, though, I'm spending my afternoons next week at the school getting ready.

Oddly enough, I have similar nightmares before school starts. They are always about the lack of preparation... and confused students.
I am in worse shape--I am still attending high school in my dreams, failing to find the classroom, failing to remember that there was a test, forgetting to do the assignment--and I am 47. I would be relieved if one of you unprepared teachers would show up in my dream so that I wouldn't feel so bad.
I have the same nightmares - even the one Eric has - I hate those dreams!
