Our Second Speaker this Morning

Is Peggie Carlson, the author of The Girls Are Coming - from the front lines of the 1970s blue-collar workforce.  Thanks to the grant, we all now have free copies of her book.

It is her story of becoming a working woman in a man's world -- or what had been a totally male dominated workforce at that time.

Here is one of my favorite lines so far (and I'm just a few page sin ) - the line comes from her first time apprenticing as a pipe fitter in Minneapolis as she tried to understand her boss's grunts and gestures, as he said, "Go get me dat t'ing" - "I was female, black and unfamiliar with the intricacies of the Scandinavian workingman's dialect"

What a great opportunity this MNHS grant has been for us.  The variety of speakers and presenters over the last six years has been incredible and their talents and accomplishments have been superb, offering this group of 60 educators or so, a once in a lifetime chance to learn and grow.
