Two years ago our principal found the most original cheer, which comes from a Wisconsin school, I have ever seen. He wanted several of the faculty to model it during a recognition ceremony for our student body. It was part of his plan to revitalize school spirit.
However, we didn't have much time to rehearse, so we canned it until this year.
This fall coach Mumm had his football team do it and revitalize school spirit. First, he delaybed practice routinely in the fall so his football players could attend an event from every varsity sport. They set the recrod for the largest crowd in our Cross-Country program's history. The guys got in to a bit of trouble when they went to watch our girl's tennis players. It appears the boys weren't well versed in tennis ettiguet. Apparently, hanging on the fence, shaking it, and cheering wildly is frowned up in the tennis circles. But they got out and supported the other teams.
This cheer was often done at other events. The football players modeled it for the entire student body at homecoming. Then it branched over in to other sports, usually with one student leading the fans in this cheer. I recall a fan leading the band and the few spectators that were actually at the Perham playoff game in this rollercoaster cheer. One of the highlights from the Crookston game (apart from the final 94 yard drive in 1:34) was seeing our fans pull off the rollercoaster cheer. All the Crookston fans could do was respond with the lame "Let's Go Pirates!" cheer.
Here is how the Prowlers celebrated their improbable come from behind win over Crookston in the second round of the playoffs at UND.
