Kenzie is one big Prowler fan

The Prowlers played in the section championship last Friday.

Early in the season coach Mumm mentioned to the team how several years ago when he coached the out-state team he had members of that team come up and place the names of the people they thought of when they took the field on little stickers and adhere those names to the helmet. Then each player explained who these people were and why they thought of them as they took the field.

It was powerful just listening to the re-telling of it. Just imagine what it must have been like there to be part of the out-state team doing that.

When Mumm told this to the team, I couldn't help but think of whose name I'd put on that helmet. It's a no-brainer - my mom and my dad.

My mom was my biggest fan. If she couldn't be at a game, she was glued to her faithful A.M. radio in the kitchen listening closely.

My father too was a big fan and supported me in all that I did.

As I thought more about this, I realized that the last game my father and I ever got to attend and sit next to each other and watch in person was when the Prowlers beat Perham for the section championship in the Alerus several seasons ago. Dad would die from lung cancer less than two months later.

Then an idea hit me. I thought about how if this team were to make it to the section championship game how cool it would be if I could find those same seats Dad and I sat in, and actually sit in them with Kenzie. It would be our first football game we had ever watched in person.

So I asked Coach Mumm if this was okay, and he had no problem with it.

That night I got Kenz all psyched up. By the time I dropped her off at daycare, she kept repeating "I'm going to the Prowler football game with my dad!" to anyone who would listen.

After school I picked her up some Prowler gear for the game and we headed to the Alerus center.

To say that Kenz enjoyed the game - even though the Prowlers lost a heart breaker to EGF - would be an understatement.

She was scared of all the people at first, but once we grabbed some popcorn and pop, she calmed down.

As soon as we walked in to find out seats, a parent handed her a little Prowler sign made out of a paint stick with blue and gold ribbons and a laminted sign that read "TRF."

Kenz waved it like mad.

Once she got some popcorn in her and the band (with her big sister KoKo playing trumpet) started rocking, Kenz really got into it, dancing and waving her hands and cheering "Go Prowlers!"

What a great night. Dad (and Mom) would be proud!
