The Far Side

For a number of years now, I've wanted the Gary Larson's collected works of The Far Side. Now, I love Calvin and Hobbes, but there is nothing funnier than The Far Side.

Kristie came through with the collected works as a Christmas present this year, and I've been laughing ever since.

Larson's collection - divided into two leather bound volumes - are wonderful, if unwieldly (each must weigh close to 20 pounds).

I guess you either tend to love The Far Side or you hate it. I love it and find it hysterical.

One wonderful thing about the collection - besides all 4,333 cartoons - happens to be a few of the fan letters Larson received (one from Timothy Leary comes to mind) and the numerous letterof the letters from those who either hate the column or are confused by it. One of my favorite anti-Far Side letters comes from a chap from MN (imagine that). He is sending the letter to the comics editor of the Star Tribune (I know, a normal, rational person would stop there, right?). But this moron keeps going. He states that he's not opposed to cartoons that push the limit (he admits to chuckling at some cartoons in Hustler and High Society (I know, a rational person would not even go there, right?), but this Far Side stuff is just too much. How grand is that! And it had to come from MN. Didn't it?

Who hasn't had a show-and-tell moment like this?

I should use this in conjunction with "Young Goodman Brown."

This is just plain hilarious.

Ditto.

This last one is one of my all time favorites.

I should use a Far Side cartoon for daily writing prompts.

You included two of my all-time favorites, Kurt: the mountain goat and the slide... Thanks for the memories!
