A compliment?

My niece is in her third week of teaching math at an area high school. She is having a rough go of it - as all first year teachers do.

Though I think she had a bit of a breakthrough, she found one of her classes - the most difficult class, in fact, - circulating a petition to remove her as their teacher!

Ha.

That is funny. And a bit of a breakthrough, because I think it's always scary when you have a teacher that is too nice or worries too much about whether or not the students like them.

I remember thinking I had made it as a teacher when during my first month of teaching I was called an a*&hole.

I didn't yell or scream at the kid. I just smirked and shook my hand and said, "Finally, yessss. I've made it as a teacher!"

You have to take moments like that in stride.

But still, a petition. That's good. At least that class is creative and has some personality.

In fact, I'm a bit envious. I just got called an a*&hole. I was not worthy of a full petition!

Bless her heart. I still remember students walking by my classroom wondering to each other out loud "Dude, where'd the hot teacher go?" Ooooo that steamed my beans!

Good luck to your niece. Her students will get used to her just like your students look up to you now!
