I have a cousin who serves in the military and who has been to Iraq and who would go back in a second. I also have been inundated with emails detailing all of the good things our soldiers are doing over there that our liberal media supposedly doesn’t want us to know so they never show them.
I do not disagree.
But why are so many of our soldiers (154 so far) committing suicide either over there or once they return home?
For once I would like to get a forward explaining that to me.

My secret santa knew just what to get me: George W. Bushisms for 2008. Of course, to narrow it down to 365 had to be quite a task. So I’m sure I got the best of the best!

It is interesting to see my College Comp class start to separate itself. I have several who are really excelling; however, I have a few who are really starting to struggle. I thing it comes down to this: desire and drive. Those who excel are not overly gifted as writers. They just care about their work and grade. So they put the extra time in to make their work. The other few don’t put the time in.
Another area that separtes them is the amount of attention they pay in class. The ones who actively share or ask questions do remarkably better than those who don’t. The group that is struggling now, have difficulty focusing and don’t ‘get’ the assignment the first time I explain it.
The ones who struggle never seem to get it. No matter how plainly I spell it out. This makes me believe that they just don’t care enough to put the extra effort in like the excellent group does. Maybe I’m wrong.
I even have one student who isn’t a particularly good writer: however, he just works so hard. He asks questions when something doesn’t make sense to him (as is often the case). He comes in during his own time to ask questions. He hounds me during class periods. And his work is paying off. Why can’t more be like that?
