Monday

"Oh, Good Lord, I'll go ahead," one of my College Comp students declared.

I was bribing them. They could either read their rough drafts for essay #2 or I could give them extra homework. Two students volunteered right away. But there were fifteen minutes left. Plenty of time for someone to step up or for me to give them the assignment.

That's when this student, despite having difficulty reading, stepped up . . . and read an absolutely stunning piece on a biking accident.

A nice way to end the day. I just wish student were more motivated. It's not that I mind them not sharing their rough drafts. I will go through and note which ones should share them later, but it is the fact that I think many of them didn't have them done. Too many are treating this class like a freshman high school class rather than a college class. Or does this happen in college too?

Kristie and I spent Sunday making an imovie as part of our wedding thanks yous (I know they're loooooong overdue). We are going to customize them for each family. I emailed Barb, my sister, for pictures of Dad and Mom. She only had a couple of them together on her computer. She also had many of the trip she and her kids - Matt, Amanda, and Ashley took with Dad to Texas two years ago.

This is a picture of Dad doing something he always loved (a love he passed on to me) - driving. Next to working on the farm or standing on the sidelines at my football games, this is how I want to remember him.
