It has been a great summer, but I'm afraid it's close to an end. The evenings are getting shorter, tomorrow will be the first NFL preseason game, school shopping is in full swing, the nights are cooling off, all the tell-tale signs are here. And honestly I can't wait.
I just finished doing some curriculum work - a nice way to spend a Saturday evening, right? We went through an arduous curriculum cycle and will getting all new texts. Tonight I went through and coursed what I want to use and what I don't. It's got me fired up.
Next week is my final week 'off' of the summer. Many of my friends give me a hard time about getting my summers off, but when I look back at it - getting married in South Dakota, teaching at the ALC (I know it's only half a day, but at $29 an hour - who needs to work a full day - plus half a day in that environment is equivalent to a 8 hour day anywhere else) for three weeks, fitting in some curriculum work where I can, the RRVWP for another four, plus starting my MNHS class two weeks from now (plus football in the evenings), plus more curriculum work to finish and soon it will be inservice time. So there really isn't much for time off. But that's okay. I'm anxious to get back. Now how many others honestly feel that way about their jobs? Not that I feel like that everyday, but to be perfectly honest, I did not have one single day last year where I didn't look forward to teaching. I have it very nice.
Tomorrow we travel to Fargo to do some shopping - KoKo's back to school shopping is pretty much all taken care off - as is mine - but Casey still has some to do. Then to celebrate the acceptance of my essay, we will go out to dinner at Famous Dave's.
Monday will be curriculum work and reading for the MNHS course. Then in the evening we have the annual football meeting with the parents. Tuesday and Wednesday will be more curriculum work and reading for the MNHS course. I think I'm meeting with some members of my department to work on curriculum for the freshman composition class. Thursday brings equipment handout for football and a parent meeting for sports in the town where I live and where our kids play sports (plus the Bengals have a pre-season game at Detroit). Friday I'll try to do little as possible and enjoy the real 'final' weekend of the summer.
Truth be told, I'm already looking forward to Halloween!
