One of the chewers, though not the one I originally emailed about, came in to talk to me (though they were both absent from class). He said, "You could have just yelled at me. Why did you have to get mad?"
At first I didn't know what he was talking about. Because I did catch him earlier, and I asked him to stop and he did. So I had no real problem with him. But when his buddy was chewing the other day after knowing what I said to the other student whom I caught chewing, that pissed me off.
It's funny how quickly this student turned the guilt onto me. Why should I feel bad for getting him in trouble? He chose to chew. So he got an ass chewing at least. There might have been more repercussions. I don't know.
But the other student hasn't talked to me yet. We'll see.

That is a favorite turn of play for students who get into trouble. Don't feel bad because of thier actions. People need to focus on owning up for the actions they make. This goes for students, teachers, and others in our society!!
