Sunday's Treasure

After our mad spring cleaning spree yesterday, something wonderful happened. TV returned to our home. Kristie could easily live without TV. I like to think that I can. But once the Direct TV installer hooked up our new satellite and showed us all the new goodies (a DVR recorder, which allows you to record live TV - no more clumsy VHS tapes and several new channels. I'm mainly interested in the NFL network), I knew that I was hooked. After all, I'm guilty of watching the same Seinfeld episodes over and over and over. I'm also guilty of watching football games from a decade ago. I won't even talk about all of the drafts I have taped and archived. If I ever were to find my way into the NFL films archive, I might not be seen again.

But I can't watch too much TV because the workload is piling up around me.

I'm in need of a spring break. Or any kind of break. Just to get a second wind.

This summer doesn't look like things will be any easier. Summer kicks off with the wedding. Then summer school at the ALC will start. After that I have a stint with the Red River Valley Writers Project in July and August (I attended three years ago, but this time I'm not only getting grad credits, but they're also going to pay me as a returning fellow). After the RRVWP I have the MN history grant class I'm part of. That meets for a week in early August. After that football starts. Somewhere amid all of that I have to find time to work on new curriculum for our new English classes that we'll be teaching in the fall. I'm getting tired just looking at that schedule. But there is also a lot of room for really good stuff - afternoon drives with Koko, going to the lake and tubing with Kristie and the kids, taking our annual trip to the cities and to the Albertville malls, and just plain lounging around the house and reading on the porch. Oh yeah, and the final Harry Potter book comes out in late July too. Kristie and I will not be moving for several hours at a time until we get that devoured.

But for now, I have to finish this school year. That means reading papers. Lots and lots of papers. I best get to work.
