Teaching Thought #7
Who is the expert in your room?
The experts in the room. A great read here from George Couros.
This article reminds me of a saying we used to have at the Red River Valley Writers Conference: “Teachers learn best from other teachers.”
The experts in the room are the teachers themselves, not someone you hire to bring in to talk for an hour each year. That is what I loved about Couros’ message at our inservice week last year. He really didn’t show us anything new. Instead, he empowered up to learn and grow and share that with others.
Challenge #1 – how can you step up and be an ‘expert’ in the room when it comes to staff development or even in your own department?
Challenge #2 – how can you allow your students to have a chance to be ‘experts’ in the room when it comes to assignments and content?
