Last Sunday we woke up early (well, normal time for us since the kids wake up no later than 6:30), and began what I hope is a Sunday ritual: we attended church.
Last Sunday we went to St. Bernard's first mass at 8:30. I hadn't been there since my friend, Goose, got married there years ago.
It was a fine service. Father and the people were very nice. Cash and Kenz were very good throughout mass. For very good reasons the Catholic churches I have been in have been very large, stoic, and majestic places. But sometimes they feel a bit cold. That is one thing I enjoy about the Catholic church in Brooks. It is not brick and stone and dark with high vaulted ceilings. Every time I've been to the Brooks church it has always felt very warm.
We didn't go down stairs at St. Bernard's for coffee and rolls, but this Sunday I think we will. It would have been nice to visit with the parents and students and former teachers that I saw there.
Then - as I suggested to the family - I think we should attend some of the other churches in town. I'd like to attend Epiphany Station and one or two of the Lutheran churches. There is a community church just down the road from our house. I would also like to attend River of Life church.
My parents did a little of this when I was growing up. Mom and I often attended St. Joseph's in RLF, but then during the mid 1980's we (and I'm not sure why) began attending a very small Lutheran church in Mentor. I also recall visiting several other churches to see family members and friends baptised.
I'm certainly looking forward to seeing the different ways people celebrate their faith and worship God.
