New Tool

Tagmydoc is a new tool I stumbled across recently that seems to be quite cool.  It allows you to upload document to their site.  Then they generate a QR code for the document.  You can do several things once this happens.  You can have the QR code placed on the document.  That way if you print it, as I did for my College Comp Syllabus, the students will have the code in the upper left corner.

If they have a scanner application on their smart phones, they can open that app and scan the QR code automatically and have a digital copy of the syllabus on their smart phone.

You can also generate a QR code that can be emailed or printed or copied and sent out that again will allow students with their smart phones or iPods or iPads to scan the code and then have a digital copy of the document.

Here is my initial trial run.

What's the big deal?  Well, now students and teachers have copies of their work wherever they go.  I am going to do this with my novels list for College Comp.  Student can then view the list as they are standing in Barnes and Noble or sitting in front of their computers scrolling through Amazon.com or while in the stacks of the library.

Yes, they could just actually bring the paper copy, but that involves them remembering to bring it with them.  Plus, it costs a lot in paper and printing costs.  I think this site is a great way to slowly work toward a paperless classroom.
