Today marks the first of 16 sessions (Monday through Thursday) that I'll be teaching at the ALC. This is my second consecutive session there.
It also means that my summer is pretty much half over. But that's okay. I've been looking forward to the fall since I read Don Tapscott's Grown Up Digital. I can't wait to get back to work.
Unfortunately, the only time I get to teach electives is during summer school. This is because we have cut several positions at the high school over the past several years (I believe we are down at least 2.5 positions). So even though we are on the block, which was designed to allow for more class offerings, the English department is handicapped by cuts to the point where we cannot offer any electives . . . except at the ALC.
This second session I get two very interesting elects: Contemporary MN Authors and Creative Writing. These are on top of the other electives from first session: Literature One and Science Fiction.
I just wish one or two of these could actually be offered at the high school again. But that won't happen until we hire more English teachers. I'm not holding by breath.
