KoKo lost her first basketball game of the year earlier this week. They played a much larger school, but they started off slowly and fell behind early. However, they did rally in the second half but it was too little too late. I think they lost by six points. Not bad for falling behind by at least a dozen in the first half.
KoKo’s team had two on the bench, and everyone played extensively. The other school had about eight on the bench, and at least two never got in at all.
Now, I’m not one to argue for equal playing time. There were more than a few occasions this year for our freshman football team that some players didn’t get in. And we often took heat for it. And that’s at the high school level. Yet, here was an eighth grade team and two of their players never got in – despite the huge lead in the first half. I wonder if their coach caught any grief – and that’s at the middle school level.
KoKo’s team rebounded, though, last night and they decimated Fertile by 40 points. Saturday they play home too against Sacred Heart, which should be another easy win.
We brought Kenzie to both games and she was the biggest hit. One of the mothers there scooped her up and started kissing and cradling her as if she were her own child. I had nightmares of Kenzie crying and squirming, but the noise didn’t bother her at all – remember at KoKo’s birthday party she fell asleep while at least 15 eighth graders rocked out to Rock Bad II – in fact, she fell asleep both times.
