Teaching Thoughts Week 36

Good morning!

I hope this finds you all doing well.

Inside this week’s Teaching Thoughts, you’ll find –

The World is a Fine Place – A story about a teacher who is helping out a student in a most amazing way. The lengths to which some people – and not just teachers – got to care for and help others is amazing.

Book of the Week – How the World Sees You by Sally Hogshead. Yes, that’s her real name. But she is amazing, as is her book. It is a unique spin on the personality test. Most personality tests look at how you view the world through your specific strengths and weaknesses. Well, this book flips that around. This looks at how the world sees you based on your strengths and weaknesses. This was an eye opener for me. And she totally nailed it too, by the way.

Teaching Thoughts – Teaching Thought #159 is one of my favorites: let the students teach the class. I’ve gotten some of my best teaching ideas from my students. I mean they’ve sat through more lessons (good, bad, and brilliant) than I have, so why not allow them to use some of that experience?

Podcast of the Week- “What it Means to be Coachable” by Entreleadership. This is gold. If you’re a teacher, parent, coach, employer, or employee, give this a listen. Please.

Tech Tool of the Week – EdX. This website and app allows anyone to stake courses – free – from several of the best universities in the country. How cool is that?

Bonus Content of the Week – Eleven Simple Ways to Show Your Employees You Care. Only I’d switch this to Eleven Simple Ways to Show Your Students You Care. But regardless – employees or students – people need to know you care. Every. Day.

Make it a great week. People are struggling and hurting everywhere. Give grace. It’s not always easy, but you’ll never regret it. And, who knows, when you actually need some, maybe you will have some extended your way!
