Teaching Thought #20
In prepping for my UND Teaching and Learning 250 class a few
years ago, I came across this interesting read, Ten
Things Teachers Should Unlearn – I revisit it before every school year.
Fifth thing teachers should unlearn: Learning
can be measured by a letter or number
I think our study of standards based grading is enough to
prove this item. How many times have we
earned an A in a class, yet we learned very little? We just knew how to jump through the hoops. Likewise, I took a world religions course in
college and earned a B. But I learned
more and worked harder in that class than many of my other classes combined.
