Today's Reads, Views, and Links

Stupid.  Come on! We are trying to have a society.

Please don't tell me this is actually true.

Did someone really attempt to pat a lion on the head when they were on safari?

After watching this, I can see now why often tourists die.  Either they are stupid and try to take a selfie by a cliff.  Or they are gored by buffalo when they think the creatures are like stuff animals.  Why?  God has given us brains for a reason.  Right?

After watching the video and seeing the lion growl and rise up, I don't have a lot of faith in the flimsy window to protect the people in the vehicle either.

I can't believe this is news either.

Apparently, you need a permit to sell water?  That too is the definition of stupid.

And apparently, it's not wise to call the cops on an 8 year old girl selling water outside your apartment.  I mean, seriously, don't you have better things to do with your time, lady than to call the cops on a little entrepreneur?

Well, apparently, it hasn't worked out well for the poor lady who called the cops.  Thanks to social media - and let this be a warning to EVERYONE (cops, teachers, and anyone thinking of freaking out on a plane) - that if you do something stupid, you're going to get filmed and posted to social media and probably fired for your stupidity.

And that's what happened to this lady.

This reaffirms something I find fascinating about our culture today.  Businesses and customers want to do busy with good people.  Well, 'good' might be a stretch.  Let me revise that a bit, they want to do business with people who believe what they believe or whose mission lines up with their core beliefs.

So be careful.

Of course, like Kenzie or Cash, who acted foolishly and had to suffer the consequences, the lady in question is full of tears and remorseful.  How about growing up and thinking about this stuff before you act like a fool?

That is like the fireman who posted racial hatred on his FB page only to have it go viral and then have to apologize and try to convince us that he wasn't a racist.  how about growing up and thinking about stuff before you act like a fool?

Should #permitpatty's life be ruined?  Of course, not.  We all make mistakes.  I'm sure she will recover, but the damage is done.  Let this be a lesson.

And here is another example of being a dirt human being.  Apparently, this woman asks a teen to leave her pool and then hits him.  Worse yet, she bit a copy when he tried to arrest her!

Yet, in a week, she will be sobbing and trying to back track that she isn't a racist.  Yet the video is there - and right or wrong - that will only tell that one side of the story forever.  The damage is done.

This podcast on how to stop killing the love for reading in students is the best thing I've listened to all summer.  It has me all fired up to teach again!

As loathe as I am to ever agree with Fox News, this article does have a great point.  The left - in their latest tactics to harass Trump supporters and his staffers - are being just as insensitive and rude as anything the right ever did during Obama's tenure in office.

When will our elected leaders grow up?

I saw this on my sister's Facebook feed and just had to shake my head.  Is this really what our elected official have come to?

So this democratic representative (from Pennsylvania) posted an image of himself and uploaded it to Twitter.  See a screen capture of it below.

Let me get this right. You're the first openly gay representative for Pennsylvania, yet this is how you choose to act?  Wouldn't you want to be a role model instead of a hate monger, which is what this says to many of us.  And I'm a liberal!  Would Martin Luther King, Jr have acted this way?  Gandhi?  JFK?  Any other civic leader or activist?

The mud slinging / public shaming / shaming in general needs to stop. On all sides.

And it doesn't help when it is perpetuated from the top down.  I just saw this tweet from President Trump (listed in the Fox News article)

What is he a 6th grader?   "An extraordinarily low IQ person"?  There have been four republican presidents in my life, Reagan, Bush sr. and Bush jr and now Trump.  I don't see any of his predecessors stooping to such childish behavior.  And I'm not saying had Hilary won the election that the climate would be any better or she would be above similar childish tactics.  I seriously believe we were screwed due to our (lack of) options for leader of this great nation.

While we are contemplating if the world is indeed round (lord, help us all) or if we should vaccinate our children, Japanese scientists just landed a probe on an asteroid well over a million miles away after a journey that took four years!

Why are humans doing amazing things like this while others are referring to other adults as having "an extraordinarily low IQ" or flipping off another elected official or biting cops?

Is this what we've come to?

************

And now we have "lava bergs" to deal with.

Don't we have enough problems already?  Is the world flat?  Will vaccinating my kids lead to autism or is big pharma out to rule the world?  Did Bush really bring down the twin towers?  Was our previous president even an American?

Where will it end?
