Teaching Tip #112

Teacherscribe’s Teaching Tip #112

Ten Questions to Help You Become a Better Teacher This Year.

Question #2 – What simple tools are available to me to help personalize instruction?

A cell phone.  Facebook.  Instagram.  Blogger.  TED Ed, Google Drive.  Remind 101.  Storify.  And it seems like there are dozens of new apps ever week to help you personalize instruction.

I know I’ve written about this several times before, but one of the most effective ways for me to personalize instruction is using my cell phone.

I have my cell number poster below my learning targets.  Then early on I give students a ‘cell phone’ quiz where they have to text me a one sentence answer.

This is a quick way to get all my kids’ numbers.  I then use this to answer individual questions and communicate personally with them.

I think it’s paramount to try to use simple tools (as opposed to having to overhaul what we do or try some new tool that will only frustrate us in the long run) to individualize instruction for our students, whether you’re a new teacher or a vet.
