What purpose does school serve?  This is a key question in John Merrow’s The Influence of Teachers.

Purpose #2 – It’s a social place.

Not so much anymore.  We have apps for that.  Kids are far more connected than ever before.  In fact, unless they are dead asleep, I don’t think they are ever truly disconnected.

But since kids don’t come to school to fill that social need anymore, Merrow ponders what can we do to fill that void?  Or how can we teach students to wisely use their connections?
