Teaching Tip #98

Teacherscribe’s Teaching Tip #98
Have a growth mindset.  Better yet, foster a growth mindset in your students.
What is a growth-mindset?
It is a theory developed by Carol Dweck in her book Mindset.  She found that people tend to fall in to two categories.  There are folks who have a closed mindset.  They tend to believe that we are born with an innate amount of talent or intelligence.  They tend to believe that you are limited by this innate amount of talent or intelligence.  The other group of folks fall into the growth mindset.  These folks believe that whatever innate amount of talent or intelligence you are born with isn’t fixed.  It can, rather, be improved upon through hard work and practice.
This resource is an interesting read on how to inject the growth mindset into a school culture
