The Trouble with textbooks.
I’m stealing this from a book I read this summer for a graduate course on teaching reading in the content areas: Subjects Matter by Harvey “Smokey” Daniels and Steven Zemelman.
Solution #2 Don’t waste your money on all the bells and whistles.
We have gotten suckered into this one. One of the main reasons we went with Collections is that it offered a subscription to the TurnItIn website. However, this has been an issue since day one. It doesn’t work nearly as well as it was promised. Plus, we were hoping all kids would get access to TurnItIn, but it seems just like our English students have access.
Is the money really worth all the consumables and transparencies and other things?
