For the past I don't know how many years (Six? Seven?) years I've been blogging, I haven't had any real order to it.
If I felt like blogging about my family, I wrote. If I felt like ranting about politics, I ranted. If I felt like poking fun at myself, I poked. If I felt like writing about my classes, I wrote about my classes.
Well, I think it's time to tweak that a bit.
I've been thinking about grouping all of my posts into specific categories. I already have one that I've been posting for a year or so - "Today's Reads, Views, and Links" in which I post the interesting stuff I've come across via social media (usually Twitter).
I am brainstorming other categories. I still want to blog about my family, so I think I'm going to have a category for that. Not sure what to call it, though.
Then I want to be more reflective about my craft, so I'm going to have a category devoted to what's going on in 205 (my room).
To get myself writing more, I'd like to post a weekly "state of the union" column. Now "state of the union" is a bit strong. Maybe I'd be better off having an editorial column instead. I always thought about how much fun it would be to write a weekly column for the newspaper, so maybe that's what I'll do with this category.
Why change? Well, I think it - as I've stated - would bring some needed structure. Plus, it would motivate me to blog more. It would give me some focus to help generate more ideas and to chronicle more of the events of my life (inside and outside of the classroom).
And that's why I started blogging in the first place.
