I came across this great video via my TED Talks app. It's worth every second. I love his mantra: "People don't buy what you do. They buy why you do it."
I think this corresponds perfectly to teaching. What do we do as teachers? Educate the young . . . prepare them for the 'real' world . . . equip them with the skills to thrive in the workplace . . . get them to pass tests . . .
Yet, why aren't we more successful? Well, because if we don't sell the students on why we do it, they won't buy in!
Why do we teach? To get kids to find their passions . . . to get students to love what they learn . . . to get students to grow into capable adults and citizens . . . to develop a passion like we have . . .
That's why people learn or buy or follow. Just think of why you do anything. It's because we don't buy what companies do. We buy why they do it.
