The Power of Art

Why should the stupid obsession with standardized tests ushered in under NCLB and now RTTT be repealed? Because too often, and this is collateral damage thanks to the laws, the arts are the first things to be cut from schools. They can't justify their existence on a cheap bubble test. They are expensive and take dollars away from languages, reading, math, and science . . . all subjects that are easily testable.

Yet, time and time again, art changes lives and the world. It can help bring an end to a crazy war. And it can help salvage a little girl's life.

Here is the amazing story behind this picture and the girl known as "Napalm girl."  Though the soldiers behind her did nothing about her burns, thank God the photographer did.
