Overall, he was excellent throughout the two hour ceremony. After the first party we attended, though, he zonked out in the pick up. So I spent the rest of the night lugging him out of his carseat and to the other graduation parties. However, many people were helpful in holding him while he slept, so it wasn't hard at all.
The next day, though, was a different story. Cash woke up early and was ready for more parties. We made to it three right off the bat, but by 11 Cash was pretty cranky.
I brought him home and put him to bend. He slept until one and woke up angry. I think he was constipated from all the graduation food (mainly candy) that he ate the night before.
So I gave him some raisins (he ate two boxes of them), knowing those would work their magic on him. Then he zonked out until four!
The only problem was that he slept through several of the graduation parties we had to attend! But I figured none of them wanted a screaming baby at their receptions anyway, so we made the best of it.
When Cash woke up, he was in a much better mood. So we headed north of town for a late afternoon graduation party. I brought extra diapers since I wasn't sure how long it would take for the raisins to work their way through his digestive system. Just in case it hit when I was at the reception, I was prepared to offer Sam, one of my College Comp I students, extra credit to change the diapers for me.
Luckily, it didn't come to that. There were several other kids at the receptions and Cash had fun playing with them.
There were many great families and former students and colleagues at this reception, so we spent longer that we planned there, but it was well worth it.
Finally, we left with one more reception to make south of town. The graduates mom saw us right away and came up to us and then asked, "Does Cash have a woodtick?"
Uh-oh. Good thing Cash was with Dad. Kristie hates wood ticks.
Sure enough, just behind his ear there was one stuck to the base of his skull. This mom, though, was prepared. She quickly ran and got some rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip. Before I even knew it, she had the tick wrapped up and ready for disposal.
Poor little Cash, when I picked him up from daycare on Friday he had just been stung in the finger by a bee (his first bee sting) and a little more than 24 hours later, he had his first wood tick.
Since he had been such a little trooper, I thought I would reward him with a trip to McDonald's. You should see this kid devour a Chicken Nugget Happy Meal. By the time we were back home, there was half a nuggest and two french fries in the bottom of the box!
On Sunday we were both partied out so we did a little grocery shopping and stayed home.
On Memorial Day we had to do a little more grocery shopping (Cash got crabby while we were at Wal-Mart - but who can blame him?) and watched the a family of geese (a mom and dad with six little ones) by the park. When Cash was asleep, Dad cleaned and graded a few papers.
Both of us will be happy when the girls get back later this afternoon. We missed them!
