Obama and his stooge, Arne Duncan, talk about education reform, which really means more standardized tests (which really means kids will hate learning even more than they already do) and somehow (insert Michelle Rhee here) try to tie in teacher evaluations to those test scores. Yet, Obama just signed a bill to eliminate funding to maybe the finest professional development project in higher education, the National Writing Project.
Yes, that's an excellent way to save money and get us out of debt. Brilliant move. Even President Bush and his conservative education agenda left the funding in place.
It's sad. Because the greatest professional development of my life has come via the Red River Valley Writing Project at UND, which is part of the NWP.
Great move Obama and Duncan.
