Thanks to a colleague at the RRVWP, I came across the Sticky-Note Book Report. I'm in the midst of doing one right now with my College Comp II class.

Here is the assignment.

Sticky-Note Book Report and other assignments.

I dreamed this up when we were in the computer lab one day and I was walking in when I noticed a book on the Egyptians.

I thought, wouldn't it be awesome if I randomly walked around the library and grabbed books that I thought were interesting and then distributed them individually to my College Comp II students. I'd say, "Here you go. Have them read by the end of the week. Then we'll write a research paper based on your responses to the books."

It didn't quite work out like that.

Instead, I had each student write down on a note card three subjects they were really interested in and one subject they absolutely didn't want to read about at all.

Then I looked at the note cards and took books from my own collection (as well as the library's) and came up with their readings.

So far the students have been quite enthusiastic about it. Can't wait to see what they think of the Stick-Note Book report!
