This is an interesting look on why the Vikes dumped Moss.
If teams dumped players who quit on plays, well, there wouldn't be much of a league left.
Just look at the Bungals. They have two prima donna wide receivers:
Item A: Chad Ochocinco. Not the player he once was. And - to be honest - his mouth will likely keep him from the Hall of Fame. But he had a nice career. And in Cincy, that's enough to make you their all-time leading receiver.
But he is a 'me first' player. If the ball isn't coming his way, don't expect much. If the cameras aren't on him, don't expect much.
And it shows because he has so bent his world around him, that when it doesn't revolve around him (ie - enough balls aren't thrown his way), he is his own worst enemy. For every spectactular play he has made in his career, there is another routine play that he blew. And those are finally costing the Bungals wins this year.
Item B: Terrell Owens. Not the player he once was. But he is having a solid season for the Bungals. But he is a Randy Moss clone. He drops easy touchdowns. He drops routine passes (think back and recall for me how many routine passes Jerry Rice or Chris Carter ever dropped?). Last week he had a touchdown in his lap (literally, for the ball was under thrown, but he dropped it). Then as the Bungals were driving, he quit on a route and the ball was picked off. Did he bother to run and try to make a tackle?
Nope. He pouted and just walked off the field.
This is why the college game is so pure. No one is assured of a massive pay check yet.
Certainly, some will get one, but nothing is a given.
And that's why I'd watch a USC vs. Oregon or Boise vs. Nevada game any day of the week before I'd watch the Super Bowl.
Unless more teams took the Vikes' lead and started dumping the prima donnas and focused on team players.
But team players tend to be boring and don't sell a lot of papers or pre game shows.
