Relevant

This is why we study literature. And why we always will.

A colleague came in today. She was reading from A Hundred Years of Solitude. She was quoting a passage where the author predicts that one day man would be able to see any part of the world without even having to get up.

"Google Earth," she said.

And she's right.

Now this. Reading and reflecting on To Kill a Mockingbird in light of fighting terrorism and trying to protect the rights of Muslims who reside here.

I never thought of the connection between Atticus' attempts to protect Tom Robinson in the face of blatant racism and such current events as protecting religious freedom in America when building a mosque near 9/11.

See, that's why it's the greatest book. You can always learn from it.
