I don't mean that as a dig at homecoming. I thought it went far better than last year.
I simply mean that far too much was crammed into one tiny week.
It didn't help that homecoming fell so soon in the school year. Nor did it help that stupid NWEA testing has been going on for the better part of the whole school year. Is homecoming really the best time to be testing kids? It's not like they don't have their minds on a million other things other than sitting in front of a computer screen clicking little ovals.
Things began on a lousy note due to our Monday night JV football game against Crookston. It was at 7:00 pm under the lights at UMC. Later in the season, this would have been fine. But the third week? There was an eleven o'clock evening.
Oh yeah, and the game was on top of an abbreviated schedule due to coronation.
Tuesday followed with a BLT meeting that I had to skip for practice. That was followed up on Wednesday morning by a 7:30 PLC meeting. Somewhere in there was a lockdown and evacuation drill too!
Oh yeah, Thursday included the second coming of the deluge in which it felt like we got 10 inches of rain.
Friday was another abbreviated schedule and the parade.
This was - by far - the best day of the week, which was odd because it was by far the most stressful. During first block I got a call from Kristie that our sump pump draining line was clogged with sand and was spilling water out of the top of our vent outside. Not good.
That meant running home during my prep and checking things out. Not that there was much I could do other than dig out the end of the pipe, but it is so jammed with sand that it's clogged tight. We'll either have to rent some kind of snake device to get the sand out or wait for the people from Innovative Basement to get back to us.
Then I headed back up to TRF to get back to class and ready for the parade.
At least the sun came out on my way back, and things did get butter. The parade was awesome (or float would have been so much better had we been able to budge in front of the alumni float, but the parade 'nazi' caught us. "No float for you!" But even that was hilarious because we knew we would never get away with it. But it was fun trying. And I had a blast handing out candy to the kids (and some senior citizens who - for some reason - grabbed handfuls of candy whenever they could!)). The pep fest was also great.
And we beat down EGF at the football game.
Of course, after the game I had to rush KoKo and her date, Trevor, to RLF so KoKo could get ready and Kristie could snap a couple pictures.
The only problem was the game got done at nine and, supposedly, the doors for the dance would be locked at ten, so that meant a quick trip.
We did just make it prior to ten. Of course, that meant coming back up to pick KoKo up after the dance.
Four trips to TRF in one day. That has to be a record!

I plan to add "Parade Nazi" to the list of official job titles I have acquired over the years at LHS!
I'm glad you knew you would never get away with it!!! haha
