. . . and not much has changed for the Bungals. Their offense is still nearly unbearable to watch.
Carson was able to get the ball to TO, so that shows promise, but too often the line was ineffective and didn't give Palmer enough time in the pocket. That's a major concern.
Another major concern is that back up quarterback situation. It is the worst in the league. JT O'Sullivan is terrible. And the third string quarterback, Jordan Palmer, Carson's younger brother, is even worse!
But at leas the defense - at all levels - played great. The only touch down they gave up was on a Jordan Palmer interception for a touch down.
Another bright spot - the one that kept us from getting shut out - was the play of rookie Jordan Shipley, third round pick out of Texas - who returned a punt to the two yard line. In time, he'll be a solid punt returner and a great slot receiver. Kind of a poor man's Wes Welker.
Right now - I'd offer this fearless prediction: though very talented, the Bengals will play inconsistent football in 2010. They will score in spurts, but suffer from sacks and penalties on the offensive line. Their defense will be forced to spend too much time on the field this year and will tire late in games. They will stumble to 8-8. Marvin Lewis won't be fired; his contract simply won't be renewed. Their fine defensive coordinator, Mike Zimmer, will be promoted to head coach after the season. Bob Bratkowski (offensive coordinator) will be canned and quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese will be hired to run the offense.
Mark it down.
At least until next week when we play the Broncos at home.
