I've been waiting for a long time for this remake. Del Toro will make a great Larry Talbot.
The trouble with the preview, like most trailers these days, is that the trailer gives away too damn much. After seeing the Final Destination 3D trailer, I felt like I had already seen all the great parts. So what is the need to see the actual movie?
With The Wolfman, we can only hope that what they chose not to show is as cool as what they chose to include.
The setting looks stunning. It reminds me of another of my favorites, Sleepy Hollow. The buildings seem to have that same foreboding feel, as if they might just reach out and snatch you.
The change effects look great too. Too often directors use CGI effects for transformations. When done right, which is not often, except for District 9 and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the effects can be great.
I prefer the old school, herky-jerky style effects (think of two of the greatest werewolf films of all time: The Howling and American Werewolf in London) that make the transformation actually look painful.
The cast of The Wolfman looks great too. Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins (let's hope this fairs better than the Dracula remake he did back in '93), and Hugo Weaving.
Zombies have had their run (Day of the Dead, Shaun of the Dead, 30 Weeks Later, I Am Legend (though they should have been vampires), Land of the Dead, Dead Snow, and World War Z) and vampires are all the rage now (Twilight, True Blood, Vampire Diaries . . .). The werewolves have had a few moments (the Underworld prequel), but it's time for the lycanthropes to take a run at things.
