Textbook

I was looking at KoKo's grammar text from school last night.

Copyright 1977.

That means since the publication of that book, which is her textbook, we have fought two wars with Iraq, invented nano-technology, gone from vinyl to analog to digital, have wrist watchers and children's toys that have more computer power than the most powerful computers in '77, the wall has come down in Germany, China has become a world power again, whatever happened to the USSR, Chernobyl, Reaganomics, the first African American president, the Challenger explosion, 9/11 . . .

I thought of this while mowing the lawn on Sunday where I was listening to an excellent podcast by John Merrow. He was mentioning how in some inner city schools they literally have textbooks where people have not landed on the moon!
