like a new red convertible sports car replete with red leather upholstery. I should have snapped a picture when I had the chance.
"Mid life crisis" were the first words that sprung to my mind when I saw that.
It also reminded me of a question one of my students posed some time ago, "Why do old people have such nice vehicles."
My guess was that they were retired and had most of their debt -if not all- paid off. Plus, it might be a mid life crisis (remember, old to a 16 year old is anything beyond 30).
The student seemed to agree, and it lead the class into a good discussion on getting started in the "real world" and how much money it took to get an apartment and pay utilities, student loans, groceries, and all the other things that young people are saddled with when the first hit the workforce. We didn't even get time to talk about buying 'toys' before the end of the hour.
When Kristie got home from volleyball, I asked her if the car was still out there. "Oh yeah," she said, "And three old guys standing around admiring it."
I knew it!
