So much for summer

Had to go back to work today.

What a life I lead. I tell ya. I can only get a month and a half off!

Today was the first day at the ALC. This marks the seventh or eighth year I've been there. I tell myself after most sessions, this is the last time. But I always come back.

Last year's crew for the most part was excellent.

This year's bunch seems pretty good too. If they all show up. But that's not always a bad thing I guess. My numbers were pretty low on the first day, which is not unusual. However, the ALC has a strict attendance policy. If you miss more than twice, you're dropped.

That sure motivated people.

I wonder what an attendance policy like that could do for the high school.

I have it pretty easy with my classes.

First hour - Composition. I could teach that class every day, all year.

Second hour - Multi Cultural Lit II. This is my first time teaching this course. But I taught the first installment of the class last summer, so it should be fine. Plus, Mandy, who teaches throughout the school year at the ALC, has an excellent curriculum for it, so I'm set.

Third hour - Creative Writing. I don't enjoy this as much as regular Composition. But this isn't even like work.

Not a bad way to spend four weeks. Plus, I'm done by 12:30. Home by one. Friday's off. Can't beat it.

Unfortunately, though, once these classes start, the summer flies by. Soon my MNHS class will begin the first week of August. Then football starts. Then inservice days arrive. Labor day hits. Then it's back to school. Soon the leaves turn. There's that cool nip in the air. The days shorten. Friday nights are high school football. College and pro games dominate the channels. Kenzie's birthday arrives. Halloween is not far behind. Before you know it, there's a foot of snow on the ground!

Wasn't it just the Fourth of July?
