The Search is Over

A new principal has been hired.

And I can't wait to get back to work. There were several very strong candidates for the job. But someone had to be chosen, and I think the best candidate was selected. He offered us the best chance to really put a young, charismatic, visionary, intelligent, and articulate face on LHS.

I think when teamed with our associate principal, who did an excellent job in running the school for most of last year (and I'm not alone in that opinion either. I had several colleagues tell me that, and I feel very glad that I took the opportunity to tell him that when he visited my room one day last year), that LHS will be better than ever.

After talking with many staff members over the years - and especially this week - and what came out from the staff involved in the interview process - was that we crave a principal that will bring cohesion and passion and accountability back to the staff. One downside of the autonomy that we were given was that often it was abused. The staff craves some more accountability. Because of the autonomy, we suddenly became a fractured staff. The science department did their own thing while the business department did theirs and the English department did theirs and God knows what the history department did (but that's not unusual - just kidding!). We wanted a school leader to bring some accountability to the table and start to draw this staff back together. (And this is something I can well keep in mind for running my classes since I often give my students a great deal of autonomy. Maybe they crave a little more of the whip that I give out)

I do know this - our new principal will be on top of everything. He exhibited that at the middle school - when he had a hand in everything. He could sit down and talk about the maintenance side of his building as well as the updates to their technology programs as well at the Right to Intervention program being installed as well as the curriculum planning.

I've said it - and I wish this would have been included in the little blurb that made it to the paper last spring regarding this blog when it came under attack - I have the greatest job in the world.

Well, the greatest job in the world just got better.

I'm happy for you but sad for the teachers at Franklin. When I heard he put his hat in the ring, I knew he'd get it!
