Can't Make This Up

A student asked if they could wait to take a quiz on a film.

Why?

Because I didn't really pay attention and I won't do very well on the quiz.

Wow.

Somewhere they are 30 million Chinese students and 20 million Indian students laughing at American laziness and stupidity.

Just when you thought you heard it all - another example.

A colleague had a student ask if they could make up a test.  They had missed a film but read the liner notes and thought that they wouldn't do very well.  There's some hope at least in recognizing that.

"Sure.  Anytime before or after school is fine with me."

"Uh.  I work every night this week and morning don't really work for me."

Morning don't work for me?  Cue the laughter from the Chinese and Indians.

"Why don't mornings work for you?"

"I hate getting up."

"Oh, okay then.  Just take it next year when you're retaking the class."

It's amazing how we have some students who are so sharp.  Yet, we have some that are spoons.

Now, there have probably always been lazy and foolish people like that.  I was not the most motivated person in the world in high school.  But I was smart enough to not come across as a complete moron to my teachers at least.

Maybe this generation just doesn't care.
