Now this is interesting

I got this from our media center specialist.

I could use this with TKM. I believe twitter allows you to create text messages with a max of 140 characters. So brevity would suddenly be vital. No more filler in student responses. Very interesting.

I think one place where I could use this in TKM is to have students create a series of messages between Tom Robinson and Atticus as they plot out their case and the events that happened between Tom and Mayella.

One thing that takes students by surprise is the court scene. It is brilliantly structured by Harper Lee to put all the drama on whether or not Tom did it - especially how she with holds his injury and so on.

But, as I tell the kids, you have to remember that Tom and Atticus know the truth. We are getting to see it through Lee's narrative, so we get it served to us as the author intends - which helps manipulate us and build suspense. However, think about what it would be like to have all of the facts out on the table right away - as Atticus must have had when he interviewed Tom. Then imagine the skill and time that went into crafting their defense. That's what I would like students to twitter about. I think it would give them an insight into the novel that they would otherwise miss. Plus, it would incorporate new technology and help make it relevant and meaningful to them.
