Second day
I had to grab my ipod from my car before running this morning and was greeted by hot, muggy air - at 5 am! What is it going to be like around two this afternoon? I’m going to try to find out which science teacher has a last hour prep and see if I can’t use their room (and their air conditioning) for my final block.

Today marks Kristie’s first day at UND. To avoid a sleepless night (like mine Monday night), she wisely took a sleeping pill early. After three hours of sleep and 11 hours at school, I was so wiped out I might as well have taken two sleeping pills. I fell asleep so quickly that when I woke the first time - around 12:30 - it felt as if it could just as well have been 5 am. And, of course, the Discovery Times channel just had to be showing “The Battle of Chernobyl,” so I was trying to stay awake and watch that, but I just couldn’t do it. Good think we have a DVR. Now i can watch it tonight and skip the commercials.

KoKo’s team beat Crookston in three sets last night. By the time she got home, she was all wound up and talking a mile a minute. Over the summer I have forgotten just how important the trivial things are in a young girl’s life: which eighth grader tried to boss them around before the game, the song some of the girls composed on the bus, who sat next to whom, who ignored so and so . . . To Kristie’s credit, she listened to KoKo as if they were discussing an issue at the United Nations. She is an incredible Mom.
