For our final assignment, we had to take a shot at revising history. Here is what we came up with.

What Would Lincoln (have) Do(ne)?

* Lincoln would have compensated the slave holders a percentage for their slaves. He would also give them half credit for their Confederate Dollars.

* Slaves would have the alternatives - return to plantation owners to work (but they would be mandated to pay equal wages and promise to educate all children and any adults who wanted it), those freed slaves who wanted to return to Africa, could; freed slaves would lay the ground work for the right to vote and representation in government, freed slaves will have rights and privileges protected, they would have the opportunity to migrate west for land and be given a loan, establish a bureau of African Americans.

* Have a push to develop technologies (cotton gin and so forth).

* Harsher discrimination acts added (all men established equally. A higher accountability for judges and law enforcement).

* Black colleges established earlier.

* Blacks allowed to participate in sports and government and arts earlier.

* Since the country was so torn Lincoln was elected for a third term. Each state must include anti-discrimination laws as they are allowed back in to the union. A trial period to get back in the union or face harsh funding penalties. Likewise increased funding for certain advances and improvements.

* JFK runs with MLK as vice president. Martin Luther King Jr. elected first black president in 1964.

* Cold war averted.

* Geraldine Ferraro elected first woman president. Reagan goes on to star in the Dirty Harry films instead of Clint Eastwood. “Go ahead punk, make my day!”

* George Bush sticks with baseball, takes a high inside fastball to the temple and ends up in asylum - his eventual place of residency anyway.

* Cold fusion is invented late 80s and prevents over reliance on fossil fuels, thereby making the middle east dependent upon us.
