One of my mantras has been "technology is great. . . when it works."
I have no illusions - I'm a sucker for gadgets and toys just like everyone else. I have an ipod, laptop, cell phone and other crap. I love them. I spent a few hours playing Sims Pool on my ipod yesterday. I have thousands of songs and dozens of movies on my laptop. I take more pictures on my cell phone than calls. So I get swept up in them like others.
But this spring we bought a digital camera and a printer. Today Kristie and I finally got around to trying to print from my laptop and our home computer using a USB cable (which I had to buy extra, of course) to our Canon printer (especially designed for pictures). However, whichever way we tried to download the software, we had no luck. Niether of our computers would connect to the printer. We tried on-line searches, help desks, tutorials, and everything else. No luck.
So much for technology. We wanted to send out pictures from the wedding with our thank you cards. But we spent the better part of three hours trying to get the printer to work. We could have hand crafted the cards and engraved pictures in that time!
