Weekend

Our weekend was spent in one of my favorite ways: shopping. Ever since the first trip I can ever remember to Grand Forks (my grandmother bought me the Godzilla figure, seen in a picture posted on here somewhere) I have loved to shop.

So we pulled out all the stops - the mall (Macys, JC Penney, B Dalton (while Koko and Kristie were using gift certificates at Victoria's Secret and Bath and Body Works), Pay Less, and Wilsons). Then we hit Old Navy, Target, TJ Maxx, Kohl's, and a few others I've likely left out.

Sure enough, on Sunday we headed back and did it all again. What I wouldn't have given for a two day shopping trip when I was a kid. Once I went with a friend of mine to Grand Forks when his parents took him to a motel for his birthday. I remember as soon as we hit the mall, I detached myself and hit the bookstores and music shops. I could have spent all day there. Several years later, during my senior year, we had a hockey tournament just after Christmas in Fargo. Our hotel was right across the road of the West Acres Mall. I bet we spent eight hours a day in that mall.

As a kid, I used to spend my time drooling in front of the toy racks. Then as a teenager, I divided my time between the book stores (I had to check out the rock music magazines and the horror novels) and music stores (where I bought cassettes and T-shirts). Then when I started working, my attention turned toward clothes. That's when I started spending some serious money. My mom never would have paid for anything other than Levis, so I made up for it years later with plenty of very expensive jeans and shirts and watches and sweaters and t-shirts and flannels. Now that Kristie is in my life, my tastes have shifted more toward furniture and accessories. At first I hated it. But damn it if she didn't get me to love it now. I could spend all day in Slumberland and Zimmermans.
