What a start to the week. I get up early - run two miles. Get out of the house on time only to get about two miles out of town and my car starts running oddly. So I turn around and head back home and grab the Blazer. I get to school ten minutes late. Only to realize I left my keys in my car (I've no idea why I'm using present tense and fragments. Just kinda fits the day I guess). So I've been out of whack all day.
Thankfully my College Comp class arrived and made my world make sense again.
With such a great weekend, I guess inevitably the start of the week had to be a downer. Here's an example of my wonderful weekend - Sunday morning was spent in bed with Kristie finishing "Les Mis" and me reading poems to use with my classes. For an English teacher - that's about as good as it gets.
I haven't blogged as regularly as I would like because I'm working on a longer essay about a fascinating world I've become part of - a parent of an athlete. Kristie has coached elementary basketball for several years now. This is her last year because Koko is now a sixth grader (and a star on the team). The team is something like 17-3 this year. They only lost two last year. So each weekend we head off to youth basketball tournaments. At first I didn't think anything of this because Koko wasn't involved. But now that she is involved, I've developed relationships with several parents. And I've seen some of the oddest behavior.
I'm also tying that into our society's need for competition and wining. That leads into how it affects education.
It's a work in progress, but I hope to have it posted by the end of the week.
Well, my fourth block American Lit class beckons. We are finishing "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber" and beginning To Kill a Mockingbird. They are two days behind my other American Lit class thanks to the hockey pep fest and the weather - both of which have been miserable!
