End of the Day

My second American Lit class drives me nuts. Yesterday they read a killer story, "Doe Season." Today we discussed a bit of it and then I gave them a quiz. The quiz is designed to reinforce that they do the reading but also to probe their understanding of the story. Over half failed. Several did quite well; however, there were more than a fair share of 3's and 4's (out of 24 points). Some appeared even jubuliant to do so 'well.'

What can I do? I am dealing with the future employees of McDonalds and Hugos.
